What Tesvo does with your data
The short version: Tesvo mirrors your phone's screen to your Tesla's browser over your own WiFi hotspot. There is no account, no cloud service, and no server anywhere that your phone data is sent to. Everything below explains exactly why each permission exists and what it's used for.
What never leaves your phone
Tesvo has no backend server, no analytics SDK, and no ad network integration. The app does not create an account for you and does not know who you are. Every permission listed below exists to let the app do one specific, visible thing on your own device or your own local network — never to collect data for any purpose beyond that.
Permissions Tesvo requests, and why
| Permission | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Screen capture (MediaProjection) | Captures your phone's screen so it can be streamed to your Tesla's browser. The video stream is served only to devices on your own hotspot network — it is never uploaded anywhere. |
| Accessibility Service | Lets a tap on the mirrored screen (in the Tesla's browser) land back on your real phone, and powers the on-screen Home button. This permission is requested and granted by you in Android Settings — Tesvo cannot use it for anything beyond replaying the taps you make. |
| VPN Service (local relay only) | Used to give the app a fixed local address (the address behind android.tesvo.app) that your Tesla's browser can reach over your hotspot. This is not a traffic-routing or traffic-monitoring VPN — Tesvo does not inspect, log, or forward your phone's normal internet traffic through it. |
| Calendar (read-only) | Reads your upcoming events so they can be shown in the info carousel on the mirrored screen. Calendar data is read live and displayed; it is not stored by the app beyond what's needed to render the current view, and it never leaves your phone/hotspot. |
| Location (fine) | Used only for the optional "Save My Parking" feature (recording where you parked so you can navigate back to it) and for fetching local weather for the status strip. Location is not tracked in the background or logged over time. |
| Notifications | Shows the ongoing "mirroring is active" notification required by Android for any foreground service that captures your screen. |
| Network state / Internet | Needed to run the local web server your Tesla's browser connects to, and to fetch weather data from a public weather API. Internet access is not used to send your phone's data to Tesvo or any third party — Tesvo has no server to send it to. |
| Wake lock / ignore battery optimizations | Keeps mirroring running reliably while your phone is plugged in and mounted, instead of Android suspending the app mid-session. |
Photos you choose to save
The Scratch Pad feature can save a note or drawing as a photo to your phone's own gallery, and the parking feature can open a location in Google Maps. Both actions are things you explicitly trigger with a tap — Tesvo does not access your existing photo library, and does not upload anything it saves.
Third-party services
Tesvo calls a public weather API to show current conditions, and can open Google Maps or your meeting app (Zoom/Teams) when you tap a calendar location or meeting link. These are standard link hand-offs to apps/services already on your phone — Tesvo does not share your calendar or location data with them beyond the single request needed to show weather or open the link you tapped.
Data retention
Tesvo stores a small set of preferences locally on your phone (e.g. your MJPEG/HD default, °F/°C choice, your saved parking spot, and any Scratch Pad text) using standard Android app storage. None of this is transmitted anywhere — it stays on your device and is deleted if you uninstall the app.
Children's privacy
Tesvo is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
